It's not in writing...But believe us, the Arlo and Arlo Pro use PIR devices to detect motion...at this time it can NOT be set in zones.

Only the Q cameras which use pixel base detection has zones

That's because pan and zoom simply crops the video and has no effect on what the PIR sees to detect as motion. The systems are separate.

The wireless cameras use a PIR which is not maskable. It sees the whole scene. Check the web for description of this technology.

Why then zoom/pan is needed at all then? no use 😞

There is a use for the Pan/zoom...

I have a couple of places where one side takes in a wall / couch/ etc.... some times a enterance with things on both sides... the Pan /Zoom allways you to eliminate the unneeded view.

BTW, One of the biggest problems I see with users is they try to cover to large an area...beyond the normal range of the PIR

As a side effect of the PIR in full view, you can "cheat" the Arlo camera to appear to decrease the lag time from trigger to record ( not needed so much on Pro )... Because the PIR covers the whole view but the Pan/zoom has made it smaller, the trigger event happens OFF camera view so you end up getting a so called faster response on record ...this works well for small areas.

As mentioned above by jguerdat and TomMac, the pan and zoom feature does not change the area in which the PIR sensor detects motion. It's intended use is to zoom/crop the cameras field of view.
