Topic is locked with no solution

Could someone please tell me why a topic started by me on July 26 has been locked?

I received two replies which I was unaware of until today when I received a message asking me to choose one as a solution.

Neither of the replies is a solution, but I can no longer comment on that topic because it has been locked.

Is there some timeline I'm not aware of because I've seen topics open much longer.

Two concerns regarding locking the thread.

1 - It was less than a week and I've seen threads open much longer than that.

2 - I received an email asking me to choose a solution. How could I do that when the thread was locked and none of the replies was a solution.
