I am using arlo pro cameras and i want to update to higher quality. Do i need to buy a different base station and will my current cameras work with the new better quality cameras?

What base do you have now? (Look for a VMBxxxx label on it).

Are you planning to get (or keep) a subscription?

Will you end up with more than 5 unsubscribed cameras in the account?

The base is a VBM4000 I would like to place an additional 5 cameras adding to the three I currently use.

Do not have a subscription, undecided if I need or want one.

The base is compatible with the new cameras

But you will need a subscription to get cloud recording. Note the free 7-day cloud recording you have now is limited to accounts with 5 or fewer unsubscribed cameras. So you will lose cloud storage for these three cameras if you add 5 more with no subscription.
