Is this scenario impossible? I do'nt want to connect the internet.

I hooked the base to a router but I cannot access it with my computer. The crummy instructions appear to indicate that the base automatically connects to the internet and then an app connects to the unit over the internet. I want to log in without the internet.

Arlo Base station, camera and mobile apps require access to the internet to function as per design.

If you have a modem with the router to give your home network internet access then you will be able to use the desktop browser to access the base station if it is also connected to the same home network via the Ethernet cable.
