Arlo Pro VMS4230 trouble setting up

Received this as a gift for Christmas. Having trouble setting up. When I try to sync don't hear shutter sound. Also when scanning bar code don't hear chime either. What am I doing wrong?

I suspect you're either not following the included directions or are choosing the wrong device in setup.

First you have to claim the base so use the Base Station selection. Ensure that the base power and Internet LEDs are green and then follow the setup steps. You may then sync the cameras by briefly pressing the base sync button (don't hold it) and then the camera sync button. Update firmware when prompted as you go.

There's no shutter sound or bar code scan for this system.
