There is currently an excessive battery drain issue going on for some people, but I've never seen it reported that batteries drain in minutes. The current battery drain issue, drains down the battery in some cases in days or a few weeks. Currently Arlo is working on the issue and testing new firmware.

If your batteries drained in just minutes that is an different issue that I have not seen reported. It sounds to me that the communication between the camera and the base "froze up" which makes the camera try over and over and over to connect to the base, which drains the battery. Try puilling the battery out of the camera, give it a few seconds and reinsert. I'd also reboot your base station.

Same problem. 4 phone calls later and they still want to troubleshoot. Last person said it was their update and if it continued, they’d replace....not so much .... 4th call and want to still troubleshoot. Spent a lot of money to be charging batteries every 3 weeks. Not eye level either. Most mounted and ladder needed.

Buyer beware.
