Using OS X, the only video player I've found that can read the Arlo recording properly is VLC. I read through some posts and one user described this as a codec issue. Turns out the clips are standard H.264, but for some reason you have a resolution of 16x32 pixals specified in the H.264 header on the clips, which confuses just about every piece of software out there. VLC seeme to ignore the header.

While playing in VLC is fine, searching the files is much more difficult because you can't see the image or proxy play the file from within the OS X Finder. That means in order to search through the videos, you have to load them all into VLC first.

Is there a reason why Netgear is ignoring the MP4 specification in this manner or is this a coding error that you can fix?

This is not user fixable....

but it is known by Netgear and is on their fix list ( tho no time frame for the fix noted )

Thank you Tom,

Good to know that Netgear is aware of the problem. A shout out with thanks to Colin at Divergent Media for taking the time to analyze a clip for me and letting me know what the issue is. Besides having a highly responsive customer service team, they make some great video transcoding software.
