The PRO's have a quasi zone feature.

In the settings you can pinch zoom and drag to highlight the area that you want recorded when movement in that area happens.

The down side with this is that you are now not getting the full wide angle view of the camera.

My understanding is that only the indoor Arlo Q and indoor Q plus have motion detection zones because they are plugged in. The Arlo pro (outdoor version) does not because it is battery operated. However, I need an OUTDOOR camera with zoning capabilities. Would plugging in the Arlo pro allow me to use the zone feature?

Not becaused they are 'plugged in ' ...but because they use a different form of motion detection.

Q cameras use pixel based motion detection, Arlo/Arlo Pro use PIR devices to detect motion...it's an apple - orange thing, totally differnet is how they work. The Q cameras are not rated for outside.

So the answer is NO, a PRO out side will not give you zoning features.

But, the PRO will give you a much better response over the standard Arlos.

We've been told that bthe wireless cameras will never support zones. Whether a weatherproof Q camera ever sees light is unknown.

Sorry Streak2...

TMK, the PRO version works just like the Arlo, the PIR covers the whole field of view irregardless if you crop the pic view or not.

It's just that the PRO dual pir setup is more sensitive than the single unit in the Arlo.

Yes Tom I believe you're right. I misread the explanation in the Androd App., that says

"You can adjust what the camera sees and records by pitching (sic) to zoom and dragging the image above"

I pinched and zoomed and assumed that the movement detection followed.

I should have remembered that being PIR image sensing one cant really define movement zones.

I have reported the spelling error.

But you can use this to help you at times ( pir covers full FOV )...

Crop down the view about 20%... save. Since the PIR covers the whole fov ( which you don't see ) it will trigger before person is in picture...this makes it appear the camera is recording faster.. Really helps with Arlo at times.
