Since no one has one yet, it's hard to say. It does support the new features which the original doesn't and may never support.

Does anyone know if they will come out with firmware to enable the USB ports on the old one to enable the latest local backup feature?

Prob no prob not going to happen on the older base... But the Pro base will be available as a single item
