While following your steps are not exactly what lead to a solution, it got me started to finding a different solution.

I simply swivled the camera an inch to the left and up a little bit. It now magically detects and records everything in the field of vision that I want. I didn't think I moved it enough to cause any real change, apparently it was just enough to cause a significant increace in performance.

Strange issue. Camera has worked relatively well over the past months or so but over the past few weeks the camera's reliability and ability to detect motion has seriously degraded. The camera for some reason consistently detects and records motion on the left and right side of the screen, things I don't care to see. But someone can be walking directly in front of the camera anywhere from 3 feet away to 25 feet away and not be detected. This happens when someone is walking directly at the camera and side to side. The camera is pointed at my driveway and can't detect a giant car pulling in the drive or someone walking directly in front of the camera, but can detect a car 30 feet away on the right side of it's view driving past at 25mph.

Any suggestions? Motion sensitivity does nothing except help reduce the right/left side detections.

IR signatures moving towards or away from any PIR detector are difficult to detect. Position the camera(s) in such a way that the motion is across the field of view for the best results

Alternatively, like me, you can have 2 cameras at right angles to each other and both record on detecting motion but both also trigger the other camera to record as well. This way you are more likely to get faces. I set the rule for the camera triggered by the other camera (x2) to record for slightly longer so I can glance at the library and see which of the 2 was the camera that detected the motion originally

Also, wipe the lower front of the camera to remove any dirt or debris that might impair sensor function

Post a screenshot so we can see the view. Since it's possible that it's bad hardware, open a case, too.
