what's the best setting for night vision. I thought the cameras had clear vision without a light at night.

Below a certain level of light, the camera switches to black and whiite and if set, the infra red night vision LED's are activated.

The range of the IR light is limited. If you need greater distance than a separate IR floodlight could work or a PIR activated regular light activated by the same motion that triggers the camera to record.

The Arlo Pro night vision is very good. If you are looking at a very large open, dark space with no lighting and no reflective objects, the IR LEDs won't be able to light up the area. Post a screenshot from your camera and we'll see if we can help out further. Obviously make sure the Night Vision setting in the camera settings is on

pro at night , 6 ft high , small center stump is 30 ft out, about max of 20ft wide

If the are objects closer ( as mentioned above, Sometimes they reflect back )...so works best if not
