Why does my base unit keep switching from my home WiFi to cellular backup and back to WiFi?

same with battery backup.

A base station or SmartHub only uses the Ethernet connection and has nothing to do with your WiFi or how the router switched between the normal connection and the cellular backup. I'd suggest contacting your router manufacturer for help.

Are you talking about the home security system's keypad with cellular backup installed? ( @jguerdat was thinking you meant an Arlo smarthub).

I'd look closely at power first, since I suspect a power glitch at the home security system's keypad would also result in it switching to cellular.

Though switching to cellular could also be happening due to a loss of wifi or internet connectivity. So you might also want to measure the wifi performance at the keypad using your phone. You can use the Ookla speedtest app for this - just make sure you turn off cellular data before performing the test.
