topic Arlo Go 2. What does “locally stored microSD card” mean and do I need to buy something to read it? in Arlo Go 2

Abandoning the ARLO Pro 4 XL in favor of the GO 2 because we have a mobile router and today Verizon explained that “no way, no how, never gonna happen” can we use the ethernet cable and smart hub with our router. And it would cost me $100/mo just to get home internet service so I could get the right kind of router to connect the smarthub.

So now I am looking to switch to the Go 2 which has a sim card, I don’t need home internet, no ethernet cable, no smarthub to deal with. It says that these cameras come with a locally stored microSD card and I have no idea what that means. What does “locally stored” mean? That I store the card in the camera? How to I read the card? What is the card actually for? Do I need to buy a card reader or some other device so I can see what is on the SD card?

So many questions, and I do not want to make another expensive purchasing mistake again.

The Go 2 has a microSD card slot next to the SIM slot. That's how you would get local recordings. BUT... You have to eject the card for viewing on a computer - you can't use the app to view them like you can when recording to a hub.

BTW, Verizon wasn't explaining the situation well. Your router creates a WiFi network, correct? You can use a WiFi extender that has an Ethernet port to connect to that WiFi and the hub can connect to the extender's port.

1. What do you mean by “computer”? We have an old PC Windows 7 and an Acer Laptop both of which are at the house under potential surveillance and 75 miles away from our apartment.

2. I already bought an ethernet adapter and it didn’t work. The “plug” did not fit our Orbic router slot.

I guess Go 2 is not going to work out.

Thank you for your help. I called my device repair people and they said NightHawk makes a router with an ethernet slot but it uses ATT. Well, I have ATT internet for my flip phone and mini ipad so I called ATT and am getting a mobile hotspot router Netgear MR6500 so now I should be able to hook up the ethernet cable and install the Pro 4 XL cameras and smart hub. We shall see. Now I don’t heed to get the Go 2.

I have both ATT and Verizon phones and a Verizon mobile router but never needed an ATT mobile router or even thought about it. This new router will only cost $25/mo which is a lot less than the $100/mo for TDS home internet or the $90/mo added to my Verizon bill for 3 Go 2s...all just to get that ethernet slot.

i really hope this works.
