Thanks for that. The application we have is monitoring something which we need to know is active, ie moving. We have maybe used the wrong product but its a remote location and using something cellular seemed a good idea and intended to set the motion settings so that it was always in motion detection mode. The problem then became battery life, we bought a solar panel but that's not enough to keep it operational, maximum time to complete battery drain so far has been less than 24 hours.

With respect to the voltage, with the outdoor version, does it come with a Arlo mains to USB device because my understanding is a typical mains to USB device produces 5 volts?

I have a Go2 which I want the make record all the time. I am thinking about using a sizeable power bank but would be interested in knowing what the power consumption is when recording live video and exporting to the cellular world. Also I don't really understand the 5 V versus 9 V charging system. Do you need another charger over and above the standard 5 V USB power source or does the charging cable with comes with the device somehow take the 5 V and raise it to 9 V. Any help on these 2 issues would be appreciated.

FWIW, that cannot be done, since the camera doesn't support CVR (which is an added subscription).

@GraemeC2 wrote:

9V is used in the outdoor charger - the reason is that outdoor charger uses a longer cable, and the higher voltage reduces the power loss due to cable resistance.

There is no conversion in the cable, as the camera can charge on either voltage.

With respect to the voltage, with the outdoor version, does it come with a Arlo mains to USB device because my understanding is a typical mains to USB device produces 5 volts?

The Arlo outdoor "cable" for the Go 2 includes an integrated charger that you connect to the mains. This is not shown in the pictures at www.arlo.com (see accessories) as the plug depends on the country you are in. That provides 9 volts. The cable is 25 feet (7.6 m) long, and cannot be detached from the integrated charger.

The North American version of the "cable" you need is either the VMA5600C-100NAS (white) or VMC5601C-100NAS (black). The NAS suffix is the region code. Your use of "mains" suggests you are not in the US, so make sure you get the correct version for your region. The region codes I am aware of are

AUS for Australia, New Zealand

UKS for Great Britain

EUS for European Union

But going to www.arlo.com and then selecting accessories should bring up the right product for your region.
