I have a brand new Arlo Go and the Case back doe not close fully with a battery. I have tripple checked its inserted correlty and you can squeeze the case clased but whne you release pressure it gaps back open. I ahve solved this for now by holding close and puting a few pices of scotch tape and it says closed.

Is this normal, is there some adjsutment I can try to fix the issue?

We've seen that. It's not necessarily a problem but it's disconcerting. A swap would be useful or, if not possible, use a little O-ring grease on the seal to ensure a proper seal.
