Perhaps in your security smart-cam research you came across that info as it pertained to a Dropcam (of which I have two). They have audio which allows you to converse with one another (in half-duplex like a walkie-talking, i.e., not simultaneously like you could on, say, a telephone conversation).

But more important than having conversations, audio in Dropcams are excellent in allowing one to record and archive anything said in front of the camera. Accordingly, should some burglar speak with a stutter, prefer using certain words or even say the name of his partner, well, perfect! Conversely, and as pointed out above, Arlo cams have no sound functions.

I thought I read somewhere that you could talk through the to the camera. For example if you were alerted of motion detected you could tell the person they were being filmed. Is this right and if so how do you do it please?
