First, post screenshots. We can make suggestions that may or may not help. Second, motion is best detected with motion being across the FOV, not straight at or away from the camera, starting at or near an edge. Many folks initially try to get too much scene when first setting up the cameras - tilt them down or whatever is needed to only capture the real area of interest, not the whole neighborhood.

1 of my new Arlo Wireless is sitting pointing straight at my car in the driveway, not 10' away.

about 1/2 hour ago, I walked out there, got in car, started it, backed up, turned around in driveway, and drove out. the motion detection got the very last of me driving out the driveway and turning onto the road out front, probably 100' away. broad daylight. thats pathetic.

when I came back 20 minutes later, I drove in the driveway (in plain view of the Arlo), turned and parked right in front, shut off the engine, removed my seatbelt, got out of the car, and walked into the house with a bag of groceries. Arlo got 10 seconds of that, my car coming to a full stop, shutting off the engine, and releasingt he seatbelt, then quit before I got out of the car.

THIS IS TOTALLY PATHETIC MOTION DETECTION. USELESS.

I have used the motion detection setup LED's to identify my movement. Afterwards I can walk right in front of the camera without it recording a single movement? Should I Ask for a Refund?

The PIR that detects motion work on IR or reflection of same ( other than cars which have high reflection ) .... for people, the detect range maxs out at about 20ft

Depending on the placement ( height / angle ) and how the subject appears in the field of view ( straight on or crossing) this distance can be less.

here's a sample of what I'm experiencing. FYI, I walked onto the field of view from the left edge, in the sunlight, I'm carrying a 50 lb generator hence my uneven gait.

https://arlo.netgear.com/hmsweb/users/library/share/link/70BF1FC0E74E9B1F_201609

note the camera didn't start recording until I was halfway across the field of view.

Part of the delay is due to the distance but it's mostly due to the need for the motion to be detected, the camera to initialize the connection to the base and, hence, to the servers to actually start recording. I'd estimate ~4-5 seconds worth of lag which is only slightly more than best case (2-3 seconds). The additional lag could be due to distance to the subject, the speed of the motion (you can go slowly enough to not be sensed), the angle of the motion (there's a vector away from the camera as well as across), WiFi connection strength between the camera and base, etc. That's why trial and error for best positioning is needed.
