'Nuther real question: Does it down/upload automatically and does it matter that so far I've only sync'd one of my four cameras (just wondering if I'm going to gum up the entire works now...)?

What PC version? I have apps for Android but haven't seen anything for a PC download. Got a link?

All back end upgrades re the Arlo prgm you load via your browser ( arlo.netgear.com )

There are no links to d/l as your browser loads it directly.

See version #/date at SETTINGS, SYSTEM SETTINGS, About

Changes only improve service, but not at direct user level.

Again. What PC software? Can you please supply a link. I can't find anything that even references any app for the PC. I'm just running in a browser window. What gives please?

You are talking about the browser based system. Very deceiving, though I'm sure that wasn't your intention. For anyone looking, stop. There is no PC app per se. It is what's running in the browser of your choice.
