These cameras don't detect motion through windows due to the IR detection method. They must be outdoors to detect motion in your case. Don't sweat the cold temps until you actually note a problem. Battery life will be the biggest issue with the cold.

I set my Arlo up to look out the windows at the back and front lots. They are positioned inside the window looking out so they are protected from the weather (extreme Minnesota cold). They are not able to detect motion outside thought the window like when a car drives up the driveway. I get email alerts from inside motion when I do something near a unit, but I can jump up and down outside the window and nothing happens. This defeats the purpose I bought them for. I also turned the night vision off so it can see the parking lot at night without a reflective glare in the window.
