Thanks for that. It's useful to be able to use motion on one camera to trigger another camera to begin recording. I didn't realize that could be done.

What would be really nice, though, is to be able to nest rules in rules. E.g., when cam 1 senses motion, it turns on a rule on cam 2 to then watch for motion. For me it would look like this: Someone comes to front door exterior, and cam 1 records them. They ring the door bell, time passes, and someone answers. Cam 2 - which is inside on the other side of the door - is now "on alert", and as soon as it senses motion (i.e., door being answered) it starts recording. After that cam 2 goes back into passive mode, waiting for cam 1 to wake it up again.

I'd like to set up one camera to record on motion only after another one detects motion. The reason is is that I have a camera facing my front door, but it's constantly going off when all I want it to do is record if someone comes to the door. If I could have it activate only after the outside camera detects motion, that would eliminate a lot of false positives. Is that possible with the current software?

A real easy fix.

Go to settings. / Rules / hit the + simple which will create a new rule. Create a name for the new rule. Do not use a rule name that already exists. Than create the rule by selecting the slave camera ( the one that you don't want to record ) to detect motion. Than select the camera you want to record on as the recording camera. Than you will need to set the recording time / sensitivity and notifications. Save the new rule.

Than you need to add your new rule to the more you want it in. To do this :

settings / mode / edit/ make sure the new rule is green and hit save.

Your done.

If you want to go one step further.....

best I've done so far is with rules as follows;

First Rule; CAM 1/1 - Select Motion is detected on camera 1 and to Record Video on camera 1.

Second Rule; CAM 1/2 - Select Motion is detected on camera 1 and to Record Video on camera 2.

Third rule; CAM 2/2 - Select Motion is detected on camera 2 and to Record Video on camera 2.

Fourth Rule; CAM 2/1 - Select Motion is detected on camera 2 and to Record Video on camera 1.

It works well for me, these are inside cams with an open floor plan. I get recording from both cams, front and back.

Why does the camera not just start recording when it detects motion? Seems simpler than piggybacking two expensive cameras using one solely as a slave.

For me it's to try to save storage space on the cloud. People walk by the interior camera (facing the door from the inside) all the time, constantly tripping it. I burn up 250 MB in a day sometimes, even at 10 seconds a recording. The interior camera really only serves one function - to record interactions when someone comes to the front door. It's not meant to record people walking by. Ideally, it would become "motion detect ready" when the exterior camera (facing the door from the outside) senses someone coming up to the door.

Wow, that's a lot of video! I'd have to suggest a hardwired system instead, if for no other reason than to save the cost of batteries.
