How do I fix this motion dilemma only detects from 4 feet only should be 12 to 15 feet. Motion should be recording.

Make sure the camera is viewing only the needed area rather than a wide view. Have you checked your motion sensitivity setting in the camera settings under Default Mode Settings? Is the motion across the FOV or directly at the camera? A screenshot of the camera view may help.

A screenshot of the camera's view could be useful. Also, is that 4 foot distance between the subject and the camera rather than the subject horizontally to the wall the camera is mounted on?
