topic Power source? in Arlo Essential Outdoor 2nd Gen

Are outdoor cameras required to plug in to AC outlet? I've read some specs requiring charging the cameras so I assume battery operated. How long do batteries last with full charge? Is this an inconvenience to constantly remove and charge camera?

No

@DWD14329 wrote:
How long do batteries last with full charge?
Arlo advertises 3 months for the Essential, and 12 months for the Essential XL.

But this really depends on the amount of activity at the camera location. The amount of streaming/recording that Arlo uses in their battery life projections are modest. I don't get the advertised durations myself, I get perhaps half that. But I haven't used the Gen 2 XL long enough to know how long it will last between charges.

Definitely put the cameras where you can get to them easily (and safely in the winter). I'd go with the XL if you want the best battery life. There is a solar panel you can also get, though keep in mind that the camera won't charge when the temperature is below freezing.
