Hi,
I have been trying to install and connect the Arlo Essential Indoor Camera VMC2040 not installing at all to the SmartHub VMB4540.
Here is the context.
- App software is up-to-date
- SmartHub firmware up-to-date
- SmartHub is connected to the Internet via an Ethernet cable
- Other cameras and doorbells are connected and functioning well
- iPhone 14 Pro Max up-to-date iOS 18.5
- WiFi 2.4 GHz
- Everything within 2 meters of distance
- Factory reset has been performed a couple of times on this camera
I have been trying to resolve this issue for several weeks. I wondered what the issue could be and how to fix it
I'd greatly appreciate any help.

Does it connects to WiFi ok? If so, did it update firmware which may be needed to connect to your hub?

I couldn’t find a way to connect the Essential Indoor Camera to the WiFi directly. How do I get to that option?

That's the default - you have to manually select the ability to connect to a hub. A screenshot or two of your attempt to onboard may be useful.

Hi,
There is nothing meaningful happening. I had connected a couple of dozen Arlo cameras. These are just not connecting to anything. I've never been asked for my Wi-Fi information during this process.
Arlo Support will not even look at my issue unless I pay the company again. It just smells more like a scam when my initial installation can't even work, and they refused to look into the situation.

Notice step 9 - Continue Without SmartHub. That means you can connect to WiFi. It also means my comment about WiFi being the default is wrong since you have to select it manually.

Hey Guru!
Thank you so much for all your help. You pointing out a couple of words from step 9 did the trick for me. The camera is now connected to the WiFi network and is working fine.
I'll look into moving it completely onto the smarthub to avoid being dependent on the availability of the 2.4 GHz network.
