You can use and Alexa dot or show device as a chime. Some on this forum have had issues getting alexa set up though. I have alexa set up as a chime and I find that it is not loud enough to hear everywhere in the house so I bought the chime as well which is much louder and can be heard throughout my house.

Hi, I have the Arlo system with 3 cameras and 1 base station. I am thinking of purchasing the door bell; however, is puchasing the plug-in chime necessary? Or can I use the base statio to chime? I figured I would be able to since it produces a sound (siren).

Thanks,

No, the doorbell will not activate the base's siren. You can use either a pre-existing chime (wired) or the chime.
