I don't think that would be a good idea since it was said to have caused so many problems. Since an update should be in the offing very soon, I think the best solution is to just keep checking the download page for the official release that actually works.

http://support.netgear.com/product/R7000

Just received and am setting up a Netgear Nighthawk R7000 router. This device is compatible with the Arlo wireless cameras, making the need for a base station moot. Unfortunately, There's no update to the firmware that shipped with the device. Looking at the R7000 forums, it turns out that all updates past 1.0.4.30_1.1.67 have been pulled which corresponds with my searches. This seems to have occured last week.

No problem for me but anyone expecting to purchase an R7000 for the purpose of eliminating their base station needs to monitor firmware update status to be able to do so.

Wow, bad timing on my part. I just purchased the Arlo Q and was planning to use my R7000 Netgear router... now I must pay for the base station! :((

Nope. The Q camera only needs WiFi, not a base station. Go right ahead since this pulling of firmware will have no effect on you. It only affects wireless cameras.

BTW, you may already have the updated router firmware since its only been recently pulled. If it's a version higher than 1.4xxxxx and the basic setup screen shows an Arlo button, you could use a wireless camera.

Thanks for the update. My R7000 firmware version 1.0.40.30_1.1.67. I added two more wireless cameras and connected them to the base station and the two wireless cameras work fine for live view on Wndows10 and on IOS App. Also tested IOS App accross two different wifi networks and seemed to work fine. So now I'll try to connect the Q to my R7000. Impressed with the simplicity so far.
